About LEGIC
Founded in 1996, LEGIC Identsystems is a global provider of secure wireless semiconductors, cloud software and embedded firmware technology that powers Smart Home, Smart Living and Smart Mobility products and services. Based on the smartphone which has become the control center of modern living, LEGIC’s mobile credentialing technology connects people, preferences, and permissions with fixed and mobile infrastructure. This enables our customers to create products and solutions that provide safety, convenience, and security for people at home and on-the-go.
Residential Access Control
Based on over-the-air configuration of virtual keys, LEGIC enables makers of residential access control systems to intelligently deploy electronic keys to digital wallets of iOS and Android based phones. Who may enter which residence, and when, for example tenants, family, friends, visitors, cleaning and healthcare staff, can be securely provisioned and updated in real time. Makers of smart locks, smart mailboxes, smart lockable furniture, as well as access control systems can all benefit from the instant and secure deployment of permissions via simple APIs to the LEGIC Security Platform.
Smart Home and Smart Living
LEGIC’s credentialing technology establishes a connection between the unique preferences and location of human individuals with household infrastructure to improve quality of life as well as resident’s safety and security. Lighting, heating, safety, and energy efficiency can all be optimized automatically based on who is present in which room, and when. Based on smartphone or hardware transponders in combination with indoor positioning technology (UWB RTLS), we enable our customers to develop lighting and heating control products that can be automatically activated and adjusted depending on who is at home and where. For vision impaired or elderly residents, devices supporting turn-by-turn audio navigation or stair lifts can be autonomously activated based on who is present and where. LEGIC’s technology also enables energy savings of up to 30-40% by informing smart heating control systems about which rooms are being used by whom, and when.
Smart Mobility
Travelling from home to work to shops doesn’t always mean owning and maintaining an expensive private vehicle. Mobility services such as shared cars and electric mobility scooters provide essential and cost-effective services to residents of dormitories, assisted living, multi-dwelling housing and apartment complexes. To effectively deploy these services, intelligent management of vehicle and fuel usage, vehicle booking and parking services are required. LEGIC’s mobile credentialing technology gives designers of mobility services the ability to manage vehicle usage permissions, track vehicle usage, define maximum speed and even deploy a geofence around each vehicle depending on who is driving.
EV Charging
In response to the EU’s strategy to phase out fossil-fueled cars, the electric car market in Europe is forecast for strong growth, from 2.9 million vehicles in 2023 to over 5.5 million vehicles in 2027. Electric charging (eCharging) stations for both home and businesses will experience even faster growth, reaching 56 billion dollars by 2029. To facilitate this market, eCharging stations must not only support customer authentication, secure ePayment and bi-directional communication with the service provider’s cloud, they must also support complementary customer-loyalty services such as discounts on eParking, mobility services, public transport, car wash, vending machines, etc. via the same smartcard or mobile app. Thanks to LEGIC’s credentialing technology, products and services that participate in the eCharging ecosystem can be created that give drivers convenient and seamless access to a wide range of service bundles, all centered around each individuals preferences and service subscriptions such as “Weekly electric vehicle rental including weekly fast-charge, car wash, and coffee”, all accessed by a single smartphone app.
Closed loop payment
Often products and services are offered within a closed environment, for example laundry, vending, parking, and eCharging services available to residents of a residential complex. In this case, building owners want to give residents the ability to pay for onsite services directly to the building operator. This is called “Closed-loop payment”. In addition to enabling the above-mentioned access, smart living and mobility services, close-loop payment via smartphone or smartcard can be included in the mix to give residents an all-in-one service bundle, all securely controlled via each resident’s smartphone or smartcard.
Citizen / Travel card
Smart living extends far beyond the living room. Physical or virtual smartphone-based “City Cards” can be issued to inhabitants or visitors that provide customized and dynamic access to public transportation, eScooter rental, museums, amusement parks, shopping discounts and much more, all via the same card or app that manages security and services in your home. The intrinsic multi-application support of the LEGIC Security Platform means new city services can be easily added over-the-air as they become available. Many city governments as well as public transportation providers already leverage LEGIC’s technology to increase convenience and quality of life for both inhabitants and visitors.
