Lotte Kristoferitsch focuses on social and sustainable design solutions, particularly in the field of sanitation. For 15 years, she has been working on optimizing toilets, with a special focus on urine and feces separation to improve hygiene and water efficiency. Her research began with the Reinvented Toilet Challenge by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. A breakthrough was achieved with the Urine Trap technology, which passively separates urine. This innovation is now being applied in modern sanitation systems, including residential projects in Vienna. She provides an outlook on the future of toilet technology, particularly regarding water conservation, hygiene, and health monitoring.
