The new European Building Directive (EPBD) introduces major changes for technical building systems – especially with regard to indoor air quality and CO₂ neutrality. Presented at ISH 2025, this talk offers a solid overview of the directive’s key content and challenges, explains the political and timeline context, and highlights the consequences for building services professionals. A particular focus is placed on the importance of unified technical implementation guidelines to create clear, practical standards across Europe – helping to avoid fragmentation caused by divergent national regulations. Those interested in designing buildings that are both climate-friendly and healthy will find expert knowledge, practical examples, and insight into ongoing EU-level consultations.
This lecture is supported by FGK- Fachverband Gebäude-Klima e. V.
