Colour Trends: How Bathroom Colours Affect People

1 Apr 2025

Colours evoke emotions – especially in spaces where we seek peace. This talk shows how colour in the bathroom can be more than decoration: an experience, a statement, a feel-good factor with impact. Immerse yourself in the world of colour impulses!

Colour psychology is important, as we have known for decades - but here it is not only presented with a wink, but also very trend-oriented. Here is a small sample as a foretaste of “colourful recipes from the trend kitchen”, but with a special focus on the bathroom.

Green seems perfect for the private jungle oasis, where you can find inner peace and outer freshness after an avocado scrub. Beige is like a tranquil movie that never becomes a blockbuster; a good, quiet friend that is sometimes a little too inconspicuous and almost boring. Blue is like the sound of waves, but without the salt in the air and howling storms; deeply relaxing until you realize that there is no refill for the empty toothpaste tube. Pink seems like a cotton candy universe, the red surroundings raise the pulse and orange lifts the spirits.

If you want to hear and see more than the familiar clichés on this colourful topic, look forward to this well-founded and entertaining lecture!

...has been actively engaged as a designer and lecturer for more than 20 years. She studied design technique in Essen, gathered further experience of colour as part of a one-year stay in the USA and was awarded a doctorate for her thesis on deciding between colours at the interface of creativity and objectivity. Dr Kalthegener plans colour combinations for the development of a wide variety of projects and collections. On behalf of her clients, she provides artistic colour compositions for mood boards and develops current trend themes for various style- and target-groups. The contents of her lectures revolve around the precise communication of colour at the interface between concept, production, marketing, client and customer; this involves questions of design, training in colour perception and how to address long, exhausting discussions about colour more quickly and more effectively.
