Manual window ventilation is not sufficient to ensure consistently healthy air in classrooms. Measurements show that only mechanical or automated systems reliably stay below recommended CO₂ limits. Decentralised units and cascade ventilation with CO₂-based control are particularly effective. At the same time, emissions and costs must be kept low. The City of Zurich relies on pilot projects, standardisation and close cooperation with industry.
