Türkiye’s lighting industry is evolving from traditional manufacturing towards a more technology-driven production base. Export experience, engineering capabilities, and proximity to Europe are making Türkiye increasingly relevant to international buyers.

Türkiye’s lighting industry has undergone a substantial transformation over the past two decades, developing into a diversified manufacturing sector with growing technological capabilities, international market experience, and a broad range of lighting solutions. Today, Turkish manufacturers serve numerous application areas, including architectural, commercial, industrial, residential, outdoor, and infrastructure lighting. The industry brings together established manufacturers, specialised engineering companies, and large-scale industrial enterprises, creating a dynamic and increasingly competitive production environment. The transition towards LED technologies, growing demand for energy-efficient solutions, and continuous investments in modern manufacturing processes have contributed significantly to this development. Türkiye’s lighting industry benefits from the country’s broader industrial capabilities, skilled workforce, engineering expertise, and well-established manufacturing traditions. As international companies seek reliable manufacturing partners, diversified supply chains, and greater operational flexibility, Türkiye offers an attractive combination of industrial competence, geographical accessibility, and international business experience.

A Diversified and Increasingly Sophisticated Manufacturing Ecosystem

One of the defining characteristics of Türkiye’s lighting industry is the diversity of its manufacturing ecosystem. The country has developed a comprehensive industrial infrastructure supporting different stages of lighting product development and manufacturing, from design and engineering to component production, assembly, and testing. Turkish manufacturers benefit from access to a wide network of specialised suppliers and industrial service providers, including mechanical manufacturing, electronics, optical technologies, surface treatment, automation, and other supporting disciplines. Over recent years, the industry has also experienced an important evolution in manufacturing scale. Established lighting companies have continued to strengthen their operations, while larger industrial enterprises and new market participants have contributed additional production capacity and technological expertise. Investments in automated manufacturing equipment, modern production facilities, and quality management systems have further improved industrial efficiency and consistency. This combination of industrial scale and specialised production provides international buyers with a broad range of sourcing opportunities, characterising a transition from basic product manufacturing towards engineering-intensive, higher-value lighting solutions.

Engineering Expertise and International Competitiveness

The international competitiveness of Türkiye’s lighting industry is closely linked to the engineering capabilities and manufacturing experience developed by its companies. Turkish manufacturers operate in highly competitive markets where product performance, reliability, design, and compliance with technical requirements are essential. The European market, in particular, has encouraged manufacturers to work with internationally recognised technical standards and conformity requirements. Depending on the product category, these requirements may address electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility, photometric performance, environmental protection, and operational reliability. An important characteristic of Turkish industry is its ability to combine engineering knowledge with practical manufacturing experience. This capability is particularly valuable in architectural projects, industrial facilities, commercial buildings, and public infrastructure applications where lighting products may require specific performance characteristics. Furthermore, Türkiye’s manufacturers have developed experience in supplying products intended for challenging operating environments, including high temperatures, humidity, dust, and demanding outdoor conditions.

Export Experience and Integration with Global Markets

International trade has become an important element of Türkiye’s lighting industry’s development. Turkish lighting manufacturers have established commercial relationships across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia, and other international markets. European markets are particularly important because of their geographical proximity, established commercial relationships, and demanding product standards. Türkiye’s broader industrial integration with Europe provides a significant advantage for lighting manufacturers; according to the European Commission, the European Union accounted for approximately 42.7% of Türkiye’s total goods exports in 2025, demonstrating the depth of commercial integration between Turkish industry and European supply chains. Turkish lighting companies have also developed experience in international project supply, distribution partnerships, private-label manufacturing, and customer-specific production, offering international buyers access to manufacturers familiar with export procedures, technical documentation, and cross-border commercial relationships.

Domestic Market Development and the Transformation of Public Lighting

Türkiye’s domestic lighting market represents an important foundation for the continued development of its manufacturing industry. The modernisation of commercial buildings, industrial facilities, urban infrastructure, and public lighting systems creates demand for more efficient and technologically advanced lighting solutions. One of the most significant areas of development is the transition towards LED-based road and street lighting. Energy efficiency, reduced maintenance requirements, improved lighting performance, and long-term infrastructure modernisation are important drivers of this transformation. Türkiye’s 2025–2029 LED Transformation Strategy provides a policy framework for improving energy efficiency in public lighting. Within this process, the Turkish Electricity Distribution Corporation (TEDAŞ) plays an important role in establishing technical requirements for LED road lighting luminaires. The updated TEDAŞ-MLZ/2010-057.E technical specification reflects evolving expectations concerning lighting performance, safety, environmental considerations, and compatibility with modern infrastructure. The modernisation of road and street lighting equips domestic manufacturers with the capabilities to develop solutions for demanding public infrastructure applications, representing an important opportunity for the industry’s continued technological advancement.

Strategic Location, Logistics, and Supply-Chain Advantages

Türkiye’s geographical position provides a significant competitive advantage for international manufacturing and trade. Situated at the intersection of Europe and Asia, the country offers access to major European markets while maintaining established commercial connections with the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia. For European lighting companies, Türkiye’s proximity can offer practical advantages compared with more distant manufacturing locations. Depending on the destination, transportation method, and operational conditions, these advantages may include shorter delivery lead times, greater flexibility in replenishment, and closer coordination between suppliers and customers. Such factors are increasingly important as companies seek to improve supply-chain resilience and reduce dependence on geographically concentrated sourcing arrangements. Türkiye’s Customs Union with the European Union also provides an established institutional framework for trade in covered industrial products. Relatively short travel distances and compatible business hours facilitate closer cooperation between European customers and Turkish manufacturers, providing an opportunity to establish regional supply partnerships combining manufacturing capability, logistical accessibility, and operational flexibility.

Industrial Resilience, Innovation, and Future Growth

Türkiye’s manufacturing industry has developed considerable experience in operating under changing economic and commercial conditions. The industry’s continued development will increasingly depend on innovation and higher-value technologies. Globally, lighting is moving beyond basic illumination towards integrated systems that combine energy efficiency, intelligent controls, connectivity, and digital building management. Smart lighting technologies, sensor-based applications, automated control systems, and connected urban infrastructure are expected to play an increasingly important role in future market development. Türkiye’s broader industrial and technological capabilities, alongside engineering expertise developed across related industries like electronics, construction technologies, and industrial automation, provide opportunities for domestic manufacturers to participate in this transition. Sustainability represents another critical area of opportunity; energy efficiency, product durability, responsible material use, repairability, and environmental performance are becoming increasingly relevant to international purchasing decisions.

Türkiye as a Long-Term Partner for the Global Industry

Türkiye’s lighting industry offers international companies a broad range of opportunities for manufacturing cooperation and commercial partnerships. These opportunities extend from finished lighting products to customised manufacturing, private-label solutions, collaborative engineering, and long-term supply agreements. As the global lighting industry moves towards intelligent, efficient, and sustainable technologies, Türkiye represents not simply a sourcing destination, but a strategic industrial partner offering manufacturing expertise, flexibility, international experience, and access to multiple regional markets.
